Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has concluded the bail hearing for Shekharjyoti Goswami, a key figure in the ongoing investigation into the death of acclaimed singer Zubeen Garg. The court has reserved its final order until May 28. Goswami, who served as a bandmate to the late artist, has been held in police custody since September of last year alongside six other co-accused individuals.

Zubeen Garg, aged 52, passed away on September 19 while swimming in Singapore, just two days after traveling to the city for the North East India Festival. In response to the tragedy, the Assam Police CID established a Special Investigation Team to conduct a thorough inquiry. By December, investigators had filed a comprehensive chargesheet naming seven defendants, including festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, with four individuals specifically facing murder charges.

The judiciary has previously denied bail requests from both Mahanta and the singer's manager, Siddharth Sharma. In those prior rulings, the court cited significant contradictions in witness statements and the severe nature of the allegations as primary reasons for maintaining their detention. The legal community and the public now await the court's upcoming decision on the status of Goswami's incarceration.
