Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has reserved its decision on the bail application of Shyamkanu Mahanta regarding the high-profile death case of Zubeen Garg. Justice Mitali Thakuria heard the final arguments in the matter, which has become a focal point of public interest across Assam.

During the proceedings, defense counsel Pran Bora argued that Garg’s death was an accidental event rather than a deliberate crime. The defense team requested bail by citing statements provided to the Special Investigation Team and referencing legal precedents to support the claim that Mahanta bears no criminal liability.

The state government opposed the request for release. Represented by Devajit Lon Saikia, the prosecution urged the court to reject the application. With both sides concluding their arguments after three rounds of hearings, the court scheduled the formal order for May 29. The upcoming ruling is expected to influence the direction of the ongoing investigation.
