Imphal: Thounaojam Brinda, a former police officer and prominent anti-drug advocate, has officially launched her campaign for the 2027 Manipur Assembly Elections. She plans to contest from the 14-Yaiskul Assembly Constituency, making the announcement during a press conference at her residence on Sunday.

Known widely as Manipur's Lady Super Cop, Brinda previously served as an Additional Superintendent of Police in the Narcotics and Affairs of Border division. She gained national recognition for her hardline approach to the state's drug trade. During the event, she emphasized that her platform focuses on systemic change and prioritizing public welfare over traditional political tactics.

Addressing her supporters, Brinda highlighted her lack of traditional campaign resources while appealing to the public. "My objective is to bring about good governance and better administration for the whole of Manipur. I do not have money or muscle power, which are common mechanisms to win elections. However, I believe there are people who truly understand the value of democracy. Kindly support me to reach that lawmaking platform," she said.

Brinda stressed the importance of accessible leadership that remains accountable to the community. While she has confirmed her intent to run, she has not yet declared which political party she will represent. This marks her second attempt at the seat after an unsuccessful run in the 2022 election, where she lost to current Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh.
