Imphal: Former Manipur legislator Bijoy Koijam fired back at the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak on Monday. He denied claims that he works as an operative for the Research and Analysis Wing or the Intelligence Bureau. He called the militant group's accusations "false and baseless."
The threat follows two grenade attacks at his Thongju Pheijaleitong home. The first blast hit on June 28, but nobody claimed it. A second grenade went off on July 4. PREPAK quickly took credit for the incident. They issued a seven-day ultimatum for the politician to quit his work or face a trial in their self-styled people’s court.
The militant outfit claims Koijam helps security forces push rebel families to bring their children home. They argue this strategy aims to break their group apart. PREPAK publicity officer Mangal Khuman released the statement detailing these charges. Koijam blames local political rivals for the violence instead of the group's stated motives. He noted he kept quiet after the first attack because he survived similar violence as a journalist. State authorities remain silent on the matter.
