Itanagar: Monsoon rains have paralyzed Arunachal Pradesh. More than 94,200 people across 333 villages now face the fallout from flooding and landslides. The State Emergency Operation Centre reports that 26 districts are hit, with Upper Siang suffering the most severe damage.
Four people are dead and two women remain missing. Another 21 people suffered injuries during the chaos. The state government remains on high alert as rescue teams from the Army, Air Force, and disaster response forces work the ground.
Infrastructure is crumbling. Rain destroyed 131 roads, 19 bridges, and two hospitals. Farmers lost over 334 hectares of crops to the deluge. Two relief camps currently house 252 displaced residents in Keyi Panyor district.
The India Meteorological Department expects no immediate relief. The agency noted that "rainfall activity is likely to remain active over Arunachal Pradesh in the coming days." Forecasters warn of heavy thunderstorms for Lohit, Changlang, and Tirap districts through the end of the week.
