Guwahati: Incessant rain keeps Assam under water. Lakhimpur district faces a grim outlook on Tuesday as swelling rivers flood villages and kill road access. Heavy downpours in Arunachal Pradesh pushed the Jiadhal and Kumotiya rivers past their limits. At least a dozen villages in the Subansiri Revenue Circle now sit underwater.
Bordoibam and seven other villages are drowning. Hundreds of people fled to a relief camp set up at the Mazgaon LP School. The district administration confirmed they are keeping a close watch on the rising water levels, stating, "District authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation and continuing rescue and relief operations."
Traffic on State Highway 22 remains dead. The road at the Gogamukh-Ghilamora stretch has been shut for four days because the Champora river refuses to recede. Further west, the Sesa, Durpang, and Dihiri rivers chewed through rural infrastructure and swallowed local farmland. Officials told those in vulnerable spots to stay on high alert as the rain refuses to quit.
