Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway officials pulled the plug on dozens of train runs today. Floodwaters near the Simaluguri area inside the Tinsukia Division compromised tracks, forcing immediate operational changes. Trains stopped moving. NFR stated the decision reflects the "interest of passenger safety and operational requirements" as the rising water continues to hammer local infrastructure.
Major long-distance services face significant delays. The Dibrugarh to New Delhi Rajdhani Express (12423 and 20503), the Avadh Assam Express (15909), the Kamrup Express (15960), the Lokmanya Tilak Express (15946), and the Vivek Express (22504) are all diverted. Return routes for these services, plus the 12424, 20504, 15959, 22503, and 15910 trains, face the same fate. These diverted lines will now run through North Lakhimpur, Rangapara North, Rangiya, and Guwahati.
Regional service is a mess. The Nagaland Express (15669/15670) will stop at Mariani Junction, cutting off the leg to Dibrugarh. Officials also dumped the Guwahati-Ledo Intercity, Rangiya-New Tinsukia Intercity, Rangiya-Ledo Intercity, Tinsukia-Jorhat Town Passenger, Lumding-Tinsukia DEMU, and Simaluguri-Dibrugarh Passenger lines.
