Guwahati: A cloudburst sparked violent flash floods across Arunachal Pradesh on June 23 and 24. The surging water killed a 35-year-old teacher, Nirmala Gupta, and left four others missing. One child is among the disappeared. Rescue crews from the SDRF, NDRF, and police are scouring the mud and debris for survivors.

The deluge smashed through the NEEPCO colony and Poosa village. It wrecked 50 homes near the Ranganadi Dam. Infrastructure across the region buckled under the pressure. Major landslides severed access to five districts. A vital bridge connecting East Kameng and Pakke Kessang also sustained heavy damage.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu ordered officials in all 28 districts to stand by for further emergencies. He told the public, "We cannot control nature, but disaster preparedness is a priority as Arunachal Pradesh receives heavy rainfall during the monsoon period."

The water did not stop at the state line. It pushed into Assam and swamped 84 villages in the Dhemaji district. Over 20,000 people are impacted. Roughly 920 hectares of crops now lie underwater. Officials in Lakhimpur issued a high alert after the Ranganadi River swelled. The government expects the flood wave to reach Dhubri within two days. Residents in low-lying areas must stay alert and prepare to evacuate on short notice.
