Itanagar: Search teams are scouring Keyi Panyor district for four missing people following flash floods. Heavy rain triggered the disaster on Wednesday morning. It tore through the NEEPCO Colony in Poosa. Houses collapsed. Roads turned to mud and stone. Officials confirmed one 35-year-old woman died in the surge while 17 other people suffered injuries.
Operations ramped up on Thursday. An Indian Air Force helicopter moved State Disaster Response Force personnel and gear into the Pitapool area. The Border Roads Organisation is working to clear debris from the Kimin side to open the blocked routes. Crews are fighting the clock. They use two excavators to clear the path toward Potin.
Six districts remain trapped. Keyi Panyor, Kra Daadi, Kurung Kumey, Lower Subansiri, Kamle, and Upper Subansiri are currently cut off. Landslides on National Highway 13 choked off access for emergency crews. Authorities told commuters to stay away from the damaged roads. Chief Minister Pema Khandu promised help for the survivors. He said, "The government was closely monitoring the situation and making every effort to provide rescue, relief and medical assistance."
Rescue workers rely on local volunteers and ex-servicemen to push through the difficult terrain. The state Home Department is tracking the damage as the rain continues to fall.
