Five Civil Society Groups Condemn Fatal Attack on Food Convoy in Manipur

Imphal: Five prominent civil society organizations have condemned a militant attack on a Food Corporation of India supply convoy that left one truck driver dead and a police officer injured. The assault occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on May 29 along the Imphal-Ukhrul road.

Suspected armed militants opened fire on the vehicles as they traveled between Leingang Ching and TM Kasom, an area under the jurisdiction of the Litan Police Station. Following the violence, a spokesperson for the coalition, Sanjoy Sorokhaibam, labeled the incident a heinous act and called for an immediate investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The coalition of groups involved includes the All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation, POIREI Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur, All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association, the Committee on Human Rights, and the Manipuri Students’ Federation. The groups expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased driver and extended their well-wishes for the recovery of the wounded Manipur Police constable.
