Guwahati: Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah will present the Assam budget on July 10. He will table the annual financial statement for the 2026-27 year during the upcoming Legislative Assembly session. Assembly Secretary Rajib Bhattacharyya confirmed the schedule on Wednesday.
Lawmakers gather on July 6 for a session running through July 31. The schedule includes 16 sittings. This serves as the first full budget for the administration of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma since his recent reelection.
Former Finance Minister Ajanta Neog previously passed a vote-on-account on February 17. That interim measure secured 62,294.78 crore rupees to cover routine costs. Now the government moves to its full financial plan.
The ruling NDA coalition enters this session with a massive advantage. They secured 102 of the 126 available seats during the latest vote. The BJP holds 82 seats, marking its first single-party majority in the state, while allies from the Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front hold 10 each. The Congress party leads the opposition with 19 members.
