Agartala: A 12-coach electric Mainline Electric Multiple Unit train reached Sabroom railway station on Sunday, completing a successful trial run that covered 128 kilometers from Agartala. This milestone marks a significant expansion of railway infrastructure in South Tripura and highlights the progress toward bringing electric rail services to the North-East.

Large crowds of residents and railway enthusiasts gathered at the station to celebrate the train's arrival. The trial evaluated track integrity, overhead electrical systems, and overall operational viability. Railway officials confirmed that they are compiling technical data from the run to submit for a formal review by higher authorities.

The personnel involved in the operation expressed confidence in the outcome of the test. The loco pilot and railway staff stated that the initial run was smooth and met operational expectations. While the launch of regular service remains subject to final approval, the project could eventually link Sabroom and Karimganj with electric rail service.

Local residents anticipate that regular electric service will bolster the regional economy by improving access to trade, tourism, and education. By offering a faster and more sustainable mode of travel, the initiative aims to reduce fuel dependency while providing a more comfortable commuting experience for the people of Tripura.
