Itanagar: Eight people took gunfire wounds Monday morning at Mingmang Basti in Dhemaji. The attack happened near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. Tension is high. A senior police official confirmed the violence broke out after a dispute regarding alleged land encroachment by people crossing over from Arunachal Pradesh.

Assam residents Durgheswar Patir, Rohit Dole, Nagaraj Dole, Biggeshwar Patir, Pame Pegu, Sanjay Tayung, Utpal Dole, and Jan Dole suffered injuries during the chaos. First responders rushed the group to Gogamukh Rural Hospital. Medical staff eventually transferred seven victims to Dhemaji Civil Hospital because their condition was critical.

Police moved quickly to lock down the area. Security arrangements were strengthened in the border zone to prevent any further escalation, a senior official said. Authorities remain on high alert while residents on both sides of the boundary grapple with the aftermath of the shooting.
