Itanagar: A border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh flared up in Hime village, located in the Kangku circle of Lower Siang district. The trouble started when a group of Mishing people from Assam began putting up fences on land claimed by Arunachal Pradesh. Hime’s village head, the gaon bura, confronted the group to stop the construction.
The situation turned south fast. The Mishing group took the gaon bura into custody and dragged him across the state line into Assam. Local villagers tried to get him back, but they failed to secure his release. Violence followed the abduction. Gunfire erupted in the area, leaving one person wounded.
Details about the shooter, the victim, and the current stance of local police remain thin. This latest fight highlights the deep, ongoing boundary friction between the two states. According to local accounts, the development prompted the gaon bura of Hime to intervene and question the fencing activity, asserting that the land falls within Arunachal Pradesh.
