East Siang Bandh Ends After Anti-Drug Activist Granted Bail

Itanagar: A 12-hour district-wide bandh in East Siang concluded peacefully on Wednesday afternoon after anti-drug activist Gumin Mize was granted interim bail. The protest, which lasted for seven hours, saw student unions and local supporters gather across the region to demand justice for Mize following his arrest at a police station in Assam.

Demonstrators organized the strike to voice their support for the Anti-Drug Warrior president and to raise allegations of custodial torture during his detention. While the action disrupted normal business activities and public movement throughout the morning, the situation remained orderly with no reported incidents of violence.

Organizers officially called off the protest at 1 pm once they received confirmation of the court's bail order. Gomle Ratan, president of the Adi Students' Union, confirmed that the decision to end the demonstration was made collectively by the participating organizations. Supporters across Arunachal Pradesh have welcomed the bail, viewing it as a significant step for the local movement against illegal drug activities.
