Dimapur Sümi Council Demands Fast-Track Justice for Minor Assault Victims

Kohima: The Dimapur Sümi Council has issued a strong condemnation following the alleged sexual assault of two minor girls in separate incidents. The organization is now calling for fast-track trials and the imposition of stringent penalties for the two men currently in custody.

Police reports confirm that 33-year-old labourer Sadam Hussain was arrested on June 6 for the alleged assault of a seven-year-old child. In a separate case, 32-year-old Raiz Uddin was taken into custody on June 3 for the alleged assault of a 16-year-old. The council praised the Nagaland Police and the Women Police Station for their prompt response in securing these arrests.

In a formal statement, the council described these acts as heinous crimes that carry no place in a civilised society. The leadership emphasized that such trauma leaves lasting physical and psychological damage on victims and their families. They urged authorities to ensure that no leniency is shown during the judicial process under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Beyond legal demands, the council requested that welfare departments provide immediate medical and psychological support to the affected families. The organization confirmed it will continue to monitor the progress of both cases until justice is served, calling on the community to remain united in protecting children from such violence.
