Kohima: Dimapur police have taken Watimeren Jamir, also known as O. Wati, into custody regarding a sexual assault case involving a minor girl. The suspect surrendered to authorities after a court rejected his request for anticipatory bail.
Following his surrender, the police produced Jamir before a local court to facilitate further investigation. The case has drawn intense scrutiny from various tribal, student, and women's organizations across the region. These groups have publicly demanded strict legal action against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Chang civil society groups in Dimapur condemned the incident and emphasized that the case must not be compromised. These organizations have pledged their full support to law enforcement to ensure that the legal process results in justice for the victim.
