Kohima: Child abuse cases in Dimapur are on the rise. Dimapur Commissioner of Police Aotula T. Imchen told the District Planning and Development Board that cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act climbed from seven in 2022 to fifteen this year. Police also tracked 216 missing children in 2025.

Many of these cases involve runaway teens or elopement. Imchen wants schools, welfare agencies, and community leaders to watch for warning signs like absenteeism or dropouts. She warned that police and stakeholders must build a unified system to keep kids safe. She said, "Building a culture of prevention, accountability, confidentiality and collective responsibility, was key to safeguarding children’s rights and well being."

The meeting marked the first session under new chairperson Hekani Jakhalu. She told board members to push for unity and dedication while serving the district. Jakhalu noted that Dimapur remains a primary commercial hub for the state.

The board also tackled administrative business. They approved registration for the Dimapur Athletic Association, the Rise and Lead Foundation, and the Nagaland E Sport Association. Officials deferred other requests, including school upgrades and the Covenant Foundation registration. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang promised to review local proposals to ease traffic congestion after discussions with police and community leaders.
