Dimapur Police Report Spike in Child Abuse Cases

Kohima: Child abuse cases in Dimapur are climbing. Commissioner of Police Aotula T Imchen reported that POCSO filings jumped from seven in 2022 to fifteen in 2025. Authorities also tracked down 216 missing children this year alone.

Imchen spoke at the District Planning and Development Board meeting on Wednesday. She pushed for a tighter safety net connecting schools, welfare agencies, and community leaders. She stated, "no child is left without support."

Many missing cases stem from runaway incidents or elopement. Police want stakeholders to watch for red flags like chronic absenteeism and sudden behavioral shifts in students. Imchen argued that early intervention stops children from falling through the cracks.

She laid out a plan for better information sharing and timely referrals between institutions. The goal is to build a wall of accountability around local youth. Imchen noted that the department remains focused on awareness campaigns to guard the rights and dignity of every child.
