Kohima: The PHED Urban Division of Dimapur, working alongside the district administration, hosted a sensitisation programme on June 1, 2026. Held at the Superintending Engineer’s office, the event gathered WATSAN Committee members to mark World Environment Day and Environment Week under the theme Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jalvayu.

The session focused on the Solid Waste Management Rules of 2026. Officials detailed requirements for waste segregation at the source, scientific disposal methods, and the prohibition of open dumping. Organisers pointed to recent Supreme Court mandates, which call for stricter grassroots enforcement and increased accountability from local stakeholders to ensure sustainable waste management.

Beyond waste, the programme addressed long-term water security. Discussions centred on protecting drinking water through catchment area management, groundwater recharge, and rainwater harvesting. Participants were encouraged to lead community conservation efforts to prevent pollution and promote reforestation.

The event concluded with an appeal to Village Councils and WATSAN Committees to take an active role in environmental stewardship. By promoting waste segregation and protecting vital water resources, officials aim to foster a cleaner, more sustainable future for Dimapur’s communities.
