Kohima: A coalition of 11 Dimapur-based Naga youth organizations, supported by the Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students' Union, is formally requesting that Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio intervene with the Manipur and Central governments. The groups held a consultative meeting on June 14 to address the recent killing of six Nagas in Kangpokpi, Manipur, and plan to submit a joint memorandum via the Dimapur Deputy Commissioner.
The organizations convened following the discovery of the six victims, whose bodies were found in a mutilated condition. Zeliang Youth Organisation Dimapur General Secretary Rampau Haining expressed disappointment that the violence continued despite earlier mediation efforts. Regarding the search for accountability, Haining stated, "Justice means that the perpetrators must be caught and given punishment." He emphasized that the group is seeking the prosecution of those responsible rather than financial compensation.
Leadership from the participating organizations expressed concerns about the stability of the region. Haining warned that the unrest currently affecting Manipur must be contained to prevent spillover into Nagaland. ZYOD President Idizeung Reunim questioned the lack of preventive measures by state authorities and security forces, labeling the killings a direct threat to the broader Naga community that transcends state borders.
The coalition, which includes various tribal youth organizations, stressed that their response is unified rather than tribal. DENSU President Thongule Sangtam noted that the situation has reached a breaking point, declaring, "The boundary of 'too much' has been crossed." The groups have collectively appealed for the public to view the ongoing crisis through a humanitarian lens rather than tribal or political divisions.
