Dimapur Joint Council Forum to Crack Down on Unregulated Hostels

Kohima: Five neighborhood councils in Dimapur are clamping down on rogue hostels and paying guest accommodations. The Joint Council Forum, which represents Middle Point, Churches, NST, Nyamo Lotha, and Khermahal, decided to act after receiving repeated reports of trouble. Residents reported late-night disturbances, drunken brawls, and unauthorized gatherings. The forum claims these facilities lack proper oversight.

The group intends to enforce strict registration and oversight. Owners must keep resident records and follow new rules regarding curfews and visitor policies. The JCF plans to carry out periodic inspections to ensure compliance. Owners who refuse to play ball face the threat of legal referral. The forum emphasized that its goal is to maintain order, noting that "community safety and public order cannot be compromised for commercial interests."

Operators are expected to fall in line with guidelines developed alongside local authorities. The council denies any personal vendetta against business owners. They simply want to protect students and neighbors. The forum declared that "no establishment can operate without responsibility, discipline and compliance with law when public safety, neighbourhood peace and student welfare are at stake."
