Kohima: The Rotary Club of Dimapur finished installing a high mast solar street light at the Murgi Patti and G.S. Road junction. This spot is one of the city's busiest commercial hubs. Pedestrians and drivers faced poor visibility for a long time. The new setup fixes that.

Club president Pradeep Goel led the effort to push renewable energy use. The project required months of coordination with the Power Department and the Dimapur Municipal Council. They hit several technical bumps along the way. Despite these, the team pushed the work to the finish line.

The installation happened during the 2025-26 Rotary year. Former president Pankaj Kumar Jain and secretary Vivek Kumar Jain oversaw the initial push. Financial backing came from a Rotary District Grant and club donations. Past District Governor Chandu Agarwal helped secure the necessary funding.

Goel believes the light offers more than just utility. He noted that the project represents the club mission, stating the installation symbolises Rotary’s commitment to “Service Above Self” by combining innovation, sustainability and community partnership to create a safer and greener public space. The solar system now slashes local dependence on the conventional power grid.
