Dimapur Declares Infected Zone After African Swine Fever Outbreak

Kohima: Dimapur officials locked down Thahekhu Block-7. African Swine Fever hit the area. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang issued the order following reports from the Chief Veterinary Officer dated June 10. The virus spreads fast. It threatens both domestic and wild pig populations.

The administration banned the movement of pigs, pork, and feed in or out of the infected zone. Officials will also track contaminated equipment. The order remains in effect until further notice to prevent the disease from jumping to other farms.

The Chief Veterinary Officer now leads the containment efforts. They will handle surveillance, sample collection, and necessary culling. The order states: "ASF is a highly contagious viral disease affecting domestic and wild pigs and requires immediate containment measures to prevent its further spread."

Local police and administrative staff must support these operations. The District Information and Public Relations Officer will distribute safety alerts to farmers. Officials expect full cooperation from traders and transporters to keep the outbreak contained.
