Dimapur Ao Youth Organize Stadium Cleanup for Tsüngremmung

Kohima: Members of the Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation Town Unit descended on the DDSC Stadium at 6:00 AM on July 31. They spent the morning cleaning the grounds to honor the Tsüngremmung festival, an Ao Naga tradition held in early August. The crew worked under the banner: Our City, Our Festival, Our Responsibility, Let’s Clean Up.

DAYO Town Unit President Jangjilong Longchar led the event. He told the crowd, "Prelude to any festivals, we clean our homes and surroundings. And as a citizen of Dimapur, we want to show our love and care for our city in a small way to our city, Dimapur." Longchar argued that waste management is a major headache for the growing city. He warned that the government cannot fix the trash problem alone. He urged the public to take ownership, suggesting that collective community action should mirror the disciplined spirit of their forefathers.

Dimapur Municipal Council members P Sashi Longchar and Neingutoulie Kengruse spoke to the volunteers after the work finished. The organization also gave a nod to the efforts of Better Dimapur and the DUCCF. The drive was designed to boost local hygiene and sanitation standards.
