Kohima: Members of the Dimapur Ao Youth Organization, Town Unit, swarmed the DDSC Stadium on July 31. They kicked off a cleanup at 6:00 AM to mark the Tsüngremmung festival. The Ao Naga tradition falls during the first week of August. Volunteers worked under the banner: Our City, Our Festival, Our Responsibility, Let’s Clean Up.
DAYO Town Unit President Jangjilong Longchar pushed the group to participate. He argued that the city requires shared effort to fix sanitation. He noted: "Garbage is a big worry for a fast developing city like Dimapur. The truth is that the administration and the government agencies alone will not be able to solve this. Garbage is everybody's problem and everyone's responsibility."
The event highlighted that tribal festivals demand more than just feasting and dance. Participants looked back to ancient village traditions for guidance. Longchar reminded the crowd that tribal councils once managed all local repairs and construction as a group. He wants the city to adopt that same discipline.
Dimapur Municipal Council members P Sashi Longchar and Neingutoulie Kengruse spoke at the following program. The organizers tipped their caps to Better Dimapur and the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation for their ongoing work in the area. The drive aimed to boost local health and hygiene standards.
