Guwahati: Dibrugarh police torched narcotics worth 1.4 crore on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Officers fed 271 grams of brown sugar and 77 kilograms of ganja into the fire. The drugs resulted from a nine-month offensive against local dealers.
Inspector General of Police Akhilesh Singh confirmed his department filed 67 cases since the operation started. Those cases led to 112 arrests. Police cleared the seized inventory following standard legal protocols to keep the evidence off the streets.
The destruction happened as Union Home Minister Amit Shah rallied states to join the war on cartels. At a summit in New Delhi, Shah demanded a "detect, disrupt and destroy" strategy for all drug networks. He pushed state agencies to share more intelligence to crush trafficking operations across the country.
