Guwahati: Members of the Dibrugarh Bar Association are calling for an impartial investigation into the recent assault of advocate Rajesh Kesari. The incident, which occurred within the Bar premises, involved Kesari being struck on the neck and upper body by his client, Ganga Sagar Paswan. Fellow advocates intervened to stop the attack, but the legal community remains outraged by the nature of the violence.

Bar Association General Secretary Satyabarta Sarma stated that the presence of an accomplice filming the incident suggests the attack was orchestrated rather than impulsive. Addressing the media, Sarma said, "The presence of another individual who was allegedly filming the attack raises serious questions. This does not appear to be a sudden act committed in the heat of the moment. It appears to have been planned in advance."

Legal professionals are criticizing the current police investigation, claiming that the charges filed do not reflect the severity of the injuries or the premeditated nature of the assault. The Dibrugarh Bar Association and the Dibrugarh Advocates’ Association have formally demanded a review of the case, the identification of all participants, and a clear explanation regarding how the accused was granted bail.

Beyond the investigation, the groups are pushing for better security protocols at the court. They argue that the assault underscores an urgent need to protect lawyers as they fulfill their professional responsibilities.
