Dhubri on High Alert as Rising Rivers Threaten Floods

Guwahati: Dhubri officials put low-lying areas on high alert today. Persistent, heavy rain pushed four major rivers past the danger mark. The Gaurang, Tipkai, Champavati, and Gangadhar rivers are swelling fast. Each one flows directly into the Brahmaputra, putting the entire district at risk of sudden flooding.

District disaster teams hit the ground this morning. They sent volunteers and field officers to riverside villages. These crews are tasked with spotting rising water and warning families before trouble strikes. The Water Transport Department ordered round-the-clock monitoring of all boat and ferry traffic to prevent accidents.

Moferjal Sarkar, a project officer with the District Disaster Management Department, confirmed the danger. "The water levels in the Gaurang, Tipkai, Champavati and Gangadhar rivers are rising rapidly. We have sounded an alert in vulnerable riverbank areas and are closely monitoring the situation to safeguard the public from potential dangers," Sarkar said.

The administration warned residents to keep clear of high-risk zones. They asked everyone to ignore rumors and stick to official updates. Stay alert. Keep moving if the water rises.
