Guwahati: Judicial staff at the Dhubri District Court walked off the job on July 15. The two-day strike paralyzed legal and administrative work across the building. Offices shut down tight. Employees refused to process case filings or handle routine administrative duties.
The protest targets the state government for dragging its feet on a Supreme Court order from October 7, 2009. That order stems from the Shetty Commission report regarding pay scales and service conditions. Workers want the state to adopt updated graduate scales and clear promotion rules. Typists, copyists, and data entry operators claim the current lack of guidelines blocks their career growth.
Representatives warned that a longer strike looms if officials ignore their grievances. One representative stated the strike was called over the state's "failure to fully implement the Supreme Court's directives relating to the revision of pay scales, service conditions, promotional avenues and other benefits for subordinate judiciary staff."
Litigants and lawyers faced massive delays as the walkout entered its first full day. Court users should expect continued stalls in proceedings until the staff returns. The work stoppage currently remains the only path forward for the frustrated employees.
