Guwahati: Dhing MLA Mehboob Muktar arrived in Sivasagar on Sunday, July 26, to deliver relief to residents battered by severe flooding. He left his home district of Nagaon early that morning with trucks packed with food and supplies worth several lakh rupees. The legislator waded through high floodwaters to reach displaced families directly.
Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi joined Muktar to hand out the aid. Both men inspected the wreckage and spoke with locals about the damage to their homes and land. This effort follows previous contributions from AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal and social worker Mustaq Anfar.
Muktar pushed for unity among the victims. "At this moment, there is neither a Hindu nor a Muslim—there are only human beings. Political identity and religious identity are insignificant in the face of this humanitarian crisis," he said. He described the relief work as a small gesture to help those who lost their livelihoods in the disaster.
Water levels are finally dropping across parts of Upper Assam. Despite the receding tide, thousands of families remain displaced. The region now faces a long road to repair ruined infrastructure and restore agricultural land.
