Guwahati: The Dhansiri River surged again in Assam, swamping new territory in the Golaghat district. Water spilled into courtyards across the Dusutimukh area of Marangi Mouza. More than 52,000 people are suffering across the Khumtai Assembly constituency. This mess hits 14,000 families hard.

The district administration set up 32 relief camps to handle the crisis. Roughly 1,300 people sought safety there. Many others are stuck. Residents are huddled on upper floors or elevated spots to guard their livestock and belongings. Villages like Kadamguri and Rangdoi report trapped citizens. Even St. Mary’s School took a hit from the rising water.

Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia noted the severity of the past five days. He confirmed the scale of the displacement. "More than 1,000 people have been displaced and are currently staying in relief camps," Saikia said. He noted many residents refuse to leave their homes, fearing for their property.

The danger is spreading. High water levels now threaten Nazira, Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Mangaldoi. Officials are tracking the flow. Rescue teams continue working to reach the stranded as the Dhansiri keeps rising along its banks.
