Imphal: Hundreds of Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) volunteers rallied at the Mantripukhri Secretariat today. They burned effigies of the BOSEM Chairperson, the BOSEM Secretary, and the Commissioner of Education (Schools). The group is fighting alleged corruption within the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur.
Protesters claim officials knowingly used substandard paper for textbooks and answer scripts. DESAM president Romesh told reporters that his group has pushed for accountability since late 2025. They want the government to blacklist the supplier involved. Officials have remained silent despite these repeated demands.
The activists also turned their fire on Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh. The Chief Minister also oversees the Education portfolio but has not addressed the scandal. DESAM demands an independent, time-bound inquiry into the procurement process.
Romesh did not hold back on the government’s lack of response. "The silence of those at the helm of the Education Department is deeply disturbing. When allegations involving public funds and the future of students surface, the government cannot afford to look the other way," he said. The group expects officials to identify the guilty parties and take immediate action.
