Guwahati: CRPF Director General GP Singh arrived at the 34th Battalion in Nagaon on August 12. He came to review the investigation into a shooting that killed three men and wounded another. The violence erupted on the morning of August 4 at the Katimari camp in Assam.
Reports indicate that ASI/GD Ballani Premabaram, originally from Andhra Pradesh, abandoned his post at the main gate. He moved to the guard room to grab an INSAS rifle. He walked to the rear of the Quarter Guard. Then he started shooting.
He first targeted Head Constable Vishnu Prasad Baghel, who died from the attack. Next, he fired on SI/GD Ramnawal Singh Yadav. Yadav was at the camp for document verification and died at the scene. Premabaram then shot ASI/Mane Govind Sripul of the B/171 Battalion.
Medics rushed the wounded ASI to Dew Care Hospital for treatment. Following the violence, Premabaram entered the B/171 Battalion barracks and took his own life. He died on the spot. Regarding the ongoing inquiry, officials noted, "Singh's visit is expected to focus on the findings of the probe and the circumstances surrounding the incident."
