Imphal: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) set a 48-hour deadline for the Central and Manipur governments to clear all unauthorized checkpoints along highways in Kangpokpi. Tribal leaders issued the ultimatum on Saturday after a joint meeting of local civil society groups.

Roads have been clogged for over a month. Kacha Naga groups allegedly operate these illegal gates. This shutdown chokes off essential supplies, medicines, and food for the district. The region depends on these roads for survival.

CoTU claims both state and federal officials ignored repeated pleas for help. The organization blames the government for failing to keep order or ensure free transit. They warned that if the routes remain shut, the Kuki-Zo community will launch what they called "appropriate and pre-emptive democratic measures" to defend their security.

Officials face a tight window. Any violence stemming from this standoff falls squarely on the state, according to CoTU. They demand immediate intervention to restore access before the situation spirals out of control.
