Imphal: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) gave the Central and Manipur governments 48 hours to clear all blockades on highways running through Kangpokpi. The group met with local civil society leaders on June 27 and set the clock ticking at midnight. They want an end to the illegal gates choking off vital supply lines.
Roads remain the primary way to move people and goods in the state. For over a month, unauthorized checkpoints set up by Kacha Naga groups have crippled the transport of medicine, food, and commercial cargo. Residents are suffering. The organization claims it made repeated requests for help, but officials ignored them.
CoTU demands that the state and federal government work with security agencies to clear the routes immediately. They warned that if the roads stay closed, the Kuki-Zo community will launch its own protests. The group said, "If any untoward incident were to occur due to the continued failure of the authorities to address the issue, the responsibility would rest with the Government of Manipur and the concerned authorities."
The clock is running. If authorities fail to act, the group plans to take democratic measures to protect public security. The pressure is on.
