Congress Ramps Up Manipur Election Campaign to Oust BJP

Imphal: Congress officials are shifting into high gear for the Manipur Assembly elections. Party leaders met Wednesday to hammer out a campaign strategy aimed at unseating the current administration. K.C. Venugopal led the session with former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, CLP leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh, and AICC in-charge Saptagiri Ulaka.

The party claims the state remains stuck in a cycle of violence that began in 2023. Venugopal blamed the turmoil on the BJP and its so-called politics of hatred. He stated, "Lasting peace in the state could only be achieved by defeating the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections."

Congress leaders are banking on momentum from the 2024 Lok Sabha cycle. Voters backed Congress candidates in both parliamentary seats by wide margins last time. Now, the party expects a repeat performance to force the BJP out of office. They insist citizens want a new government focused on reconciliation and stability.

The BJP maintains the party is wrong. Officials argue the central and state governments have worked non-stop to stabilize the region since ethnic fighting broke out in May 2023. They deny the opposition's claims regarding the root causes of the unrest.
