Guwahati: Authorities in Assam have implemented strict movement and trade restrictions in the Charaideo district following a confirmed outbreak of African Swine Fever. District Magistrate Neha Yadav issued the order after laboratory results identified the virus in pigs located at Lukhurakhan Gaon within the Mahmora Revenue Circle.

The administration invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to curb the spread of the highly contagious disease. This mandate prohibits the slaughter, purchase, and sale of pigs and pork products throughout the affected area. Officials have also placed a total ban on the transportation of live pigs and meat, while pig feed shipments now require explicit approval from the Veterinary Department.

Pig owners must follow rigorous biosecurity practices to manage the crisis. The directive specifically outlines how to handle animal fatalities, noting that carcasses are to be disposed of through deep burial in accordance with prescribed biosecurity protocols.

These emergency measures are currently in effect and will remain until further notice. The administration warned that any violations will attract action under the relevant provisions of the BNSS. Local breeders have been instructed to immediately report any new pig deaths to the Veterinary Department to prevent further outbreaks.
