Shillong: The Union Government released 688 crore rupees to Meghalaya as an advance instalment of tax devolution. This cash injection aims to bolster capital expenditure and state development projects. The funds arrived ahead of the scheduled August 10 transfer date. The Ministry of Finance distributed 1,09,019 crore rupees nationwide to help states push forward with infrastructure and welfare work.
Assam topped the Northeast list with 3,552 crore rupees. Arunachal Pradesh followed with 1,476 crore and Tripura with 699 crore. Meghalaya secured more than Manipur at 682 crore, Mizoram at 615 crore, Nagaland at 524 crore, and Sikkim at 365 crore. Uttar Pradesh led all states nationally with 19,208 crore, trailed by Bihar at 10,845 crore, Madhya Pradesh at 8,010 crore, and West Bengal at 7,866 crore. Officials say this money is "untied" and allows state governments to deploy cash according to their own developmental priorities.
These funds help the state government speed up work on rural connectivity, education, and healthcare. Tax devolution follows recommendations from the Finance Commission to share federal revenue with individual states.
