CBI Launches Nationwide Raids Against Digital Arrest Scams

Guwahati: The Central Bureau of Investigation hit 80 locations across 16 states to break up digital arrest fraud rings. Teams descended on Sivasagar and Charaideo in Assam as part of the massive push dubbed Operation Chakra-VI. Sixty specialized units led the coordinated raids. They struck simultaneously to catch suspects off guard.

Agents seized stacks of documents, mobile phones, and digital devices during the sweeps. These records track how the money moves through the syndicates. Investigators are currently sifting through the haul to map out the broader network.

The scams rely on fear. Criminals pose as police or government officials to intimidate victims. They demand cash to stop fake legal action. An official statement noted the operation is aimed at "dismantling organized syndicates that defraud victims through Digital Arrest scams." The agency expects to identify more suspects as the probe continues.
