Catholic summer camps draw youth in Tobu and Kohima

Kohima: Catholic youth groups hosted summer camps in Tobu and Kohima this July. Children gathered to learn about faith and participate in games. They kept busy.

At Holy Redeemer Parish in Tobu, 133 catechism students finished a three-day camp on July 19. Organized by the Catholic Youth Association under the Parish Pastoral Council, the event ran from July 17. The theme was Rooted and Built Up. Participants learned about church teachings through Bible skits, quiz competitions, group discussions, and outdoor games. Resource persons Rev. Fr. Kevishi Solomon, Sr. Cicily Kamei, Changku Augustine, and David Jongo led sessions on Christ-centred living. A Holy Eucharist and prize distribution closed the event.

Simultaneously, the St. Francis de Sales Parish in Kohima Town held a two-day camp at St. John's School in Merhulietsa. Running from July 18 to July 19, 2026, the program carried the theme Ultimate Spiritual Athlete 2026. Rev. Fr. Mathew Mhabemo celebrated Holy Mass for the attendees. During his sermon, he told the group, "run the race of faith with courage, discipline and love."

The Kohima camp pushed physical and creative engagement. Kids joined in zumba, choir competitions, dance battles, and drawing shows. Fr. Mhabemo used the FIFA World Cup Final to explain his point. He reminded children that while sports stars provide inspiration, Jesus remains the true hero. The camp encouraged participants to nurture their talents while staying obedient to their elders.
