Guwahati: A woman narrowly escaped a brutal public beating in Cachar on Thursday. Her husband allegedly attacked her in the middle of Kabuganj Bazaar, turning a routine afternoon into a scene of chaos. Traders and commuters watched in horror as the man struck his wife on the busy road. They did not stay idle.
Local residents swarmed the couple to pull the attacker away. They restrained the man and shielded the woman until authorities arrived. The intervention prevented further injuries. A team from Dholai Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge Sarbeswar Kuwor, arrived shortly after to take control of the situation.
Officers hauled both individuals to the station for questioning. Locals demanded justice, pushing for hard consequences for the accused. One resident stated, "Such incidents of violence against women must be dealt with firmly to prevent their recurrence."
Investigators are now picking through the evidence. Police confirmed they are looking at every angle of the assault to determine the next legal steps. The market remains tense following the outburst.
