Bongaigaon villagers demand bridge after perilous river crossings

Guwahati: Villagers and schoolchildren in Assam’s Bongaigaon district face a deadly commute every day. They cram into a small country boat to cross the rising Manas River at Kadamtali. It is the only way out.

Monsoon rains pushed water levels high. The crossing is now a gamble. Students keep making the trip because they have exams to pass. Residents said they have no alternative but to depend on the fragile boat for their daily travel. Without a bridge, every trip is a risk.

The village falls under the Srijangram Assembly constituency. Locals claim they begged MP Rakibul Hussain for a bridge for years. Nothing happened. The neglect keeps people trapped.

Fed up with the silence, residents are now turning to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. They want a wooden bridge built immediately to keep the path open and safe. People need a way to move without fearing for their lives every time they step onto a boat.
