Guwahati: The Bongaigaon district administration in Assam has launched a process to reclaim land reserved for ex-servicemen in Bharalkundi village. Officials from the Boitamari Revenue Circle have issued formal notices to individuals currently occupying the property, which is identified as Dag Number 99.
The notices mandate that recipients appear before the Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner on May 26. During these scheduled hearings, residents have the opportunity to submit formal objections and present their own accounts regarding the status of the land. The administration conducted a door-to-door operation to serve these documents directly to the occupants.
Reports indicate that the land has been occupied for an extended period, with several houses already built on the site. Local sources suggest the encroachers include people who migrated from the neighboring districts of Goalpara and Barpeta. While the administration is preparing for a large-scale eviction drive, officials have not yet confirmed a specific date for the operation.
The news has triggered widespread uncertainty and panic among the families living in the affected area. The authorities remain focused on addressing the unauthorized occupation of property designated for military veterans.
