Guwahati: The Bodoland Territorial Council Executive Council voted Saturday to launch a dedicated vigilance committee. The body will track bribery and corruption across all council departments. It aims to stop staff from skipping work or dodging their duties. BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary chaired the meeting at the BTC Secretariat in Assam.

The group will mirror the vigilance systems used by the Assam government. It will run inspections to force accountability and keep service standards high. "The BTC Chief Vigilance and Monitoring Committee" will also hunt for administrative lapses. The goal is to clean up how the council handles its business.

Landowners in Malgaon finally get a payday. The council approved compensation for land acquired by the government. Registered land owners will walk away with between 7 lakh and 8 lakh rupees. Those holding government land will collect 2.5 lakh rupees each.

Mohilary also opened new doors for the local press. Reporters in the BTC region will now access the same welfare schemes and benefits offered to journalists by the Assam state government.
