Itanagar: Election officials in Itanagar confirmed that BJP candidate Tai Tagak’s nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election are valid. The scrutiny took place on Tuesday at the Nokmey Namati Hall within the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
Tagak filed his papers on Monday for the seat, which will become vacant once the term of incumbent member Nabam Rebia ends on June 23. If the election proceeds to a vote, polling and the subsequent counting process are scheduled for June 18.
The BJP is positioned to secure the seat given its commanding presence in the 60-member state assembly. With 46 legislators under its banner, the party holds a clear majority over the opposition. Other parties represented in the house include the People's Party of Arunachal with six seats, the Nationalist Congress Party with three, and the Indian National Congress and National People's Party with one each. Three independent legislators also hold seats.
The process follows standard electoral protocols, with officials noting the scrutiny was "conducted at Nokmey Namati Hall in the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Secretariat in Itanagar."
