Guwahati: A motorcycle rider snatched a gold chain from a woman in Kokrajhar on June 26. The victim, Chandana Roy, was walking home on Railway Station Road after visiting her aunt when the thief struck and sped away.
Police are now scouring local CCTV footage to find the attacker. They have opened an investigation into the robbery, but the community is already pushing back. Locals say the area near the station is dangerous.
Residents complain that drug use and open drinking occur unchecked. They say the lack of regular patrols and broken streetlights invite trouble. As one resident put it, "The area has long been plagued by open consumption of alcohol and narcotic substances."
