Bhutan Prime Minister Visits Assam to Strengthen Regional Ties

Guwahati: Bhutan Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay arrived in Guwahati on May 25 to meet with Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening the long-standing relationship between Bhutan and India, with a specific focus on the development of the northeastern region.

Chief Minister Sarma stated that Assam serves a vital role in bridging the civilizational bond between India and Bhutan. He emphasized that this partnership is essential for the future growth of South Asia. To celebrate the visit, the state organized a cultural evening showcasing the heritage and hospitality of Assam.

State Cabinet Minister Atul Bora greeted the Prime Minister upon his arrival at the Koinadhora State Guest House. Bora highlighted that the deep historical and cultural connections between the two regions are built on mutual trust. He expects this visit to foster new opportunities for regional collaboration and cultural exchange. Several high-ranking officials, including the Director General of Police, attended the arrival proceedings to welcome the Bhutanese leader.
