Guwahati: Bhutan Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay arrived in Assam on Monday for a two-day visit aimed at deepening diplomatic ties and regional cooperation. Upon his arrival, he was received at the Nalbari Convention Centre by local officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Das, before proceeding to Guwahati. State Cabinet Minister Atul Bora officially welcomed the Prime Minister at the State Guest House, emphasizing the historical and sociocultural bonds shared between Assam and Bhutan.

The visit is expected to bolster ongoing discussions regarding trade, tourism, and infrastructure development. A primary focus of the diplomatic engagement is the proposed cross-border rail link connecting Gelephu in Bhutan to Kokrajhar in Assam. This project, which was a key topic during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to Bhutan last November, is considered a vital step toward increasing economic integration between the two neighbors.

Officials anticipate that this visit will provide new momentum to regional partnerships following recent changes in the local government. During his stay, Prime Minister Tobgay is scheduled to meet with Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at the Raj Bhavan to discuss further bilateral development initiatives.
