Guwahati: Rituparna Baruah wants answers. The Assam Tourism Development Corporation Chairman has written to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma demanding an independent inquiry into the recent renovation of Khanikar Park in Dibrugarh.

The project cost roughly Rs 3 crore. It was managed by the Directorate of Housing and Urban Affairs. Baruah claims the work on the ground fails to match this massive price tag. He notes that residents are furious about the lack of real improvements despite the heavy spending.

Public complaints highlight a suspicious lack of progress. According to reports, crews only installed a handful of cameras and applied some fresh paint. Baruah finds it impossible to justify the costs.

"As per the complaints received, only a few CCTV cameras were installed and some painting work was carried out. That is all that is visible on the ground. It is very difficult to reconcile this with an expenditure of approximately Rs 3 crore of public money," Baruah said.

He has urged the Chief Minister to step in immediately. An impartial probe must determine if the money vanished. Accountability remains the primary goal. The park is a vital local landmark for families, and Baruah insists the public deserves total transparency.
